Position Summary
Are you passionate about fitness, health, movement, and physical education? Do you believe deeply in helping others improve their physical fitness and wellness? If these questions resonate with you, then we invite you to consider joining our team, an equity-focused, open-access college dedicated to helping all students achieve their academic and professional goals. As a Part-Time Instructor in North Seattle College's Physical Education program, you will be a key member of the team that teaches physical education classes for college credit. In this role, you will help students learn to display personal and social responsibility while developing their own physical fitness.

Specific teaching assignments will be dependent on the instructor's background and scheduling, which may include formats such as on-campus, hybrid, online, and varied class times including days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle.

What you will be working on:
  • Teach physical education course(s) as the instructor of record. Classes may include, but are not limited to: yoga, Pilates, barre, weight training, circuit training, walking for fitness, martial arts, or sports (team or individual)
  • Collaborate with other faculty to support the program and its goals
  • Assess student work to ensure students understand and demonstrate safe and appropriate techniques, movements, and activities to improve and enhance their physical fitness and/or personal health
  • Make recommendations for equipment replacement, upgrades, or purchases, as needed
  • Other duties include attentiveness and responsiveness over email, being available for student meetings, some course and curriculum development, participation in division activities and other professional responsibilities as specified.


What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to teach a form of physical education.
  • Bachelor's Degree in the field or related field from an accredited institution
  • Certified training and/or workforce experience in the field or related field. (Please read the position announcement carefully when applying for possible part-time teaching positions, to find those that best match your education and experience.)
  • An understanding that access to and engagement in physical activity are issues of equity, health, and wellness
  • An understanding of the goals and role of the community college.
  • A demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds.
  • Innovative teaching methods including the use of technology and collaborative learning.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional setting.


Physical Requirements
Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
