Essential Functions:

    The ideal candidate will share Reedley College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of the 2019-2020 academic year, we currently enroll over 19,000 students in which 74% identify as Latinx, 5% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 2% as Black/African American, 15% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% as multiracial. Reedley College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

    Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Dean, Instruction and in conformance with all State, League and District policies and regulations, the Head Football Coach/Physical Education instructor will:

    Coaching:

    • Provide direction for all facets of a successful intercollegiate football program, including the selection and monitoring of assistant coaches;
    • Maintain general relationships with support staff (trainer, equipment manager, etc.);
    • Develop and implement a strong student-athlete recruitment program for football, including recruiting assignments of all assistant coaches, as appropriate;
    • Assist in building strong relations between the community and the athletic department, particularly with the high schools of the District;
    • Work with the athletic counselor as a member of the Student Athlete Retention Committee at Reedley College, which is charged with assisting student-athletes to complete their academic requirements at the community college to transfer to four-year institutions;
    • Develop and implement appropriate fundraising activities in accordance with College and District policies;
    • Attend Central Valley Conference (CVC) Summit; and
    • Ensure compliance of institutional, Northern California Football Conference (NCFC) conference and California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) rules.

    Instruction

    • Teach and develop courses in physical education, kinesiology and health science education;
    • Participate in the development & assessment of course and program Learning Outcomes to improve student learning;
    • Evaluate adjunct instructors;
    • Support the Student-Athlete Retention Program (SARP) Coordinator and collect data on student learning outcomes;
    • Participate in professional development activities, program development and review, student activities, and faculty committees;
    • Serving on college-wide committees and attending faculty meetings, as necessary to support and enrich college programs and activities, and participating in student success initiatives; and
    • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND
    • A masters in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education AND two years of coaching experience;

      OR

    • Bachelors in any of the above AND Masters in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy AND two years of coaching experience;

      OR

    • A valid California Community College Credential;

      OR

    • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
    • Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
    • Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
    • Experience working with a diverse student population;
    • Demonstrated cross-cultural experience;
    • Successful high school/community college/university level football coaching experience;
    • Athletic recruiting experience;
    • Fundraising and budget experience;
    • Involvement in community organizations and activities;
    • Teaching experience;
    • Ability to safely lift/move and operate all equipment in the weight room and in other athletic activities;
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
    • Related work and professional experience;
    • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
    • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.


    Conditions of Employment:
    177 duty days.

    Salary and Benefits:
    Starting salary is $57,750 $86,942 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,160 is available. Coaches are eligible to receive a stipend of 10% of annual salary for fulfilling coaching duties pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).


    Selection Procedure:
    Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

    From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

    The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the ecommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews.

    A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
